We at Festival of Films Blog were all shocked and horrified by the tragic movie theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado early Friday morning. Details are still being processed, but as of now, 12 people are dead, with several dozen injured.
A mad gunman wearing a gas mask and dressed in black opened fire at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, after releasing some sort of gas canister. Obviously, we had hoped our first post on TDKR would be a positive one, a review of the conclusion of the Batman trilogy. After today, that is clearly no longer the case.
Witnesses say the shooter was dressed like Bane, the main antagonist in the film. What’s more, the massacre was eerily similar to a scene in the 1986 comic, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
Regardless of these details, terrible incidents such as these serve as a reminder that for all of the fun and flash of our beloved superhero films, villains are very real. Evil is very real. But so, too, are heroes. Keep those affected by today’s events in your hearts today, and remember to hug your loved ones.
