Part of the film tracks the work of renowned volcanologist Haroun Tazieff. Tazieff collected samples from some of the world’s most dangerous active volcanos. His work is fascinating. You have to be impressed by someone who would descend into an active volcano for the sake of science. There is a good mix of animated recreations and real footage in the volcanology section.

The film also illuminates the link between manmade global warming and natural disasters. It does a good job of explaining the science behind climate change and how it is transforming the earth of today. Global warming skeptics should take the time to watch this movie. It also talks about preventative and reparative steps we can take to protect ourselves from disaster.

Violent Earth highlights how these disasters helped shape the world we live in today. Although destructive we would not be here without these awe inspiring natural phenomena.
